It is really very hard to tell if you have bad breath, most people cup their hands over their mouth and sniff the air, this doesn't work. The reason that this does not work is that the unpleasant oder is only released when we talk.

There are four different test that you can do to detect if you have an unpleasant breath odour.

The tests
.
1. Pull your tongue forward with one hand, and with the other wipe the back of your tongue for about 15 seconds with a clean cotton ball. Wait for a few minutes and sniff the ball; if it smells bad this could mean that you have bad breath ______________________________________________ 2. Floss a few of your back teeth with a piece of unflavoured, unwaxed dental floss. Again, wait a few minutes and then sniff the floss, It's likely that this is what your breath smells like. ______________________________________________ 3. Ask a family member to be honest and indicate to you when talking face to face whether they can smell any bad breath. ______________________________________________ 4. Lick the back of your clean hand, leave to dry for 5 minutes and smell the hand. If the smell is fowl like rotten eggs, you will need to discuss this with your dentist

You can also buy a bad breath measuring meter which will sniff your breath and provide you with a reading of the Volatile sulphur produce compounds that are the main cause of bad breath! If you wish to purchase one contact our practice and we will be happy to ship one to you( Cost £39.99 + £3.50 shipping and delivery)
